As we all know by now, especially in Canada that this afternoon 9 people are dead and 16 others are injured after a van driver plowed into a number of pedestrians in the Yonge Street and Finch Avenue area of North York in Toronto.
At first, I echo with our Mayor and Prime Minster that our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of the 9 people killed and 16 injured in today’s horrific attack. Secondly, my heartfelt appreciation to the first responders, and the ordinary Torontonians who helped the victims on the spot. Many people in the area have already offered their home to those who are locked or stuck in that area due to the closer of the subway, busses and the streets as well. This is the Toronto we are proud of.
A very very special thanks to the sole police officer who single-handedly encountered the perpetrator and arrested him without a single gunshot. He showed an excellent professionalism. Although my work involves crisis handling, it’s nowhere near to the everyday work that the police do, but I could tell you after knowing the fatalities and the deadly rampage of that guy it could have been very difficult to stay calm and continue to deal with the perpetrator, but he did it. Hats off, he did an outstanding job.
My friends, and colleagues who are working the crisis field, please watch the video time and again and see how he handled the situation, how calm he was. He had to take a quick decision whether to shoot him literally in split of a second. Certainly his prompt action and quick decision have saved lives.
As the police said, the investigation is underway, so I would refrain from making any speculation or assumption regarding the motive, cause whatever. This is the time to be united and help each other, and pray for the victims. And please remember, this one person’s cowardly act does not reflect the value of all Canadians. We are still a calm and peace loving nation, and I see that in everyday life.
Myself, my close family and friends are ok. I hope you all are doing ok. I know many people in our community live in that area, I hope and pray that they are ok.
